WACT provides a high level of community development with the purpose of growing the skills, knowledge and potential of those we serve. The drive of WERA Aotearoa Charitable Trust is clear “To see families and their communities become healthier, more independent and autonomous.”

We have extensive experience in assisting communities, families and individuals towards strategies that are self sustaining, empowering and profitable.
Staff
Our kaimahi have worked in whānau and community development at local, regional and national levels giving us a mix of experiences, backgrounds and qualifications.
It is our aim to have all kaimahi trained to at least diploma level in all services to ensure we are well equipped for quality service delivery.

We partner with The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) who invest in our Youth Worker Training Scheme which supports the training and development of Youth Workers in the central North Island. We aim to see an improved level of competence and professionalism in youth work practice.

Our Hokai Tapuwae Maori Assessment Service aims to improve outcomes for Māori offenders by connecting them with their cultural links and whānau networks to motivate them to address re-offending. Our Cultural Assessor will build a rapport with the offender to assess their cultural well-being as Māori, and identify areas where cultural interventions may help address re-offending.

Our Emergency Housing Navigators use a derivative of the Whare Tapawha Model, Nga Pou e Rima, allowing a holistic look at whanau circumstances to identify areas where we will be able to assist.
