Midwifery Service

If I am unavailable, and you have tried several times, and your call is urgent, please contact Kaitaia Maternity : 0800 582 643

Description

I am a midwife based in Doubtless Bay (covering Peria, Taipa, Cable Bay, Coopers Beach, Mangonui, Hihi, Taupō Bay Totara North and surrounds), Northland, providing:

  • Maternity & Midwifery Care
  • Antenatal Classes
  • Pregnancy Massage

I believe in working in partnership with wāhine and whānau to help create a space based on trust, respect and honesty. I believe in providing each māmā and her whānau individualised care, education, empowering your discussion making and advocating for your choice. I have worked in a variety of roles as a midwife, including in the community, birth centres and as an antenatal educator since 2013.
I support home births and provide care at Kaitaia Maternity Unit. I will also provide pregnancy care if you choose to birth at Whāngarei Hospital, although birth care will be provided by the hospital-based team there.
My clinic is in Coopers Beach and I take on a limited number of clients in Kaitaia for home/hospital visits. I cover areas in the Far North and surrounds (Kaeo/Whangaroa).

Staying at a birthing centre or hospital after giving birth

Your stay at a birthing centre or hospital after giving birth will usually be up to 2 days, or 2-5 days if you have had a caesarean. During this time you will have regular visits from your midwife and be supported to care and feed your baby. You are able to stay in Kaitaia Maternity for several days (depending on availability) with your support person. You will have 24/7 postnatal care provided to you and your baby by a registered midwife. Highly recommend this support for first time mama. If you are needing/choosing to birth in Whangārei, you will be able to stay down there until you and baby are cleared to come back to primary care in Kaitaia Maternity or home. You and your baby will be cared for by core staff until you come back to the Far North.
