Description

The main objective of Te Kōtuku Ki Te Rangi is to provide support and care for Māori (and non-Māori) who suffer from mental health disabilities.

Te Kōtuku Ki Te Rangi was established to meet a need identified by the founders for culturally appropriate treatment practices for people of Māori descent suffering from a Mental Health disability. Although targeted at Māori, anybody of any cultural or ethnic background may choose to enter.

Our services can be broken down into six core areas:

Support Hours

Support hours are designed to provide support that is flexible and individually tailored to meet Tangata Whaiora needs. Provision of support hours is aimed to facilitate community engagement, whānau activities and where appropriate be consistent with a Tikanga/Kaupapa Māori approach. It is expected that the majority of visits and community participation will be delivered between 8:30am-5:00pm. Outside these hours an on call system will operate to provide support for Tangata Whaiora.

Description

Description

This consists of three whare (houses), all within the Waitemata DHB region of Auckland. Tangata Whaiora who have been diagnosed have their needs assessed and are placed according to their requirements into a whare. Social Housing

Te Kotuku Ki Te Rangi Charitable Trust provides a subsidised rental housing service in West Auckland. One and two bedroom units are available for rent to people experiencing a mental health status and/or are experiencing social or economic need. The two bedroom units are available for small family households – including couples or for people willing to share.

The facility is run from a 6-bedroom whare in Te Atatū South and features multiple living areas and quiet spaces where Tangata Whaiora can convalesce minus the stressors of their day-to-day lives. Kaimahi ensure that all needs of Tangata Whaiora are met whilst they are in our short term care. This is particularly useful to Tangata Whaiora who are experiencing mental distress but who are more likely to recover once in a stable, safe environment. Respite care is accessed via referral from Home-Based Treatment or Crisis Teams attached to WDHB.
