Description

Shama supports ethnic people who have experienced family violence and/or sexual violence or other complex issues. We provide social work support, counselling, therapy and crisis support. We can also connect clients with other services when needed.

Family Violence Regional Coverage: Waikato region only

Sexual Violence Coverage: All of New Zealand

Crisis Connection Service:
If you are experiencing or have experienced sexual harm, we have an ethnic co-ordinator you can talk to. She will help you find the right support service and will work with you, and the service that you want to use so that they understand your cultural or religious needs.

Social Services:
We provide social services to the Waikato region that include advocacy, brokerage, support, home visits and linking to other services. If you are outside of the Waikato region, we can help connect you to the local services in your region.

Counselling and Therapy:
If you have experienced sexual harm, Shama can connect you with an ethnic counsellor or therapist to provide ongoing support through our ACC service. We have therapists right across the country who can work with you and people are available to provide online counselling, to ensure you have the right fit.

Training and Advice:
Shama can provide training and cross-cultural advice to those who are working with ethnic people who have experienced sexual harm.
