Description

The Waikato Family Centre provides a free medically based family health service cared for by Registered Nurses to any family / whānau who are struggling with concerns they are having with their babies and under two-year-olds in the community and the greater Waikato including Thames, Tokoroa, Tauranga, Huntly and Raglan.
Our core business is Child and Maternal health

Referrals come from Mothercraft, Plunket, GPs, Midwives, Maternal Mental Health, Paediatrics and self-referrals, making it easy for families to access our service.

The Waikato Family Centre also provides up to an hour of one-on-one consultations or can spend the day in the Centre. Phone call consultations are also an option.

Staff

Our dedicated, passionate Health Professionals consist of a Nurse Manager, Officer Administrator, Registered Nurses, Karitane Nurses and Volunteers.

Families can self-refer by phoning or emailing us. Referrals also come from Mothercraft, Plunket, GPs, Midwives, NICU, Perinatal Mental Health and Paediatrics, making our service easily accessible.

Family / whānau support

Support Consultations Our experienced Registered Nurses provide guidance, advice and support on a number of parenting concerns, including: An unsettled baby Dairy intolerances Breastfeeding Bottle feeding and introduction to bottle Allergies Adjustment to motherhood Parenting skills Postnatal anxiety and depression Reflux Slow or low weight gains Sleep concerns Toddler behaviour and its many challenges Any other areas of concern We provide day-to-day support for Mums and Dads within the Centre by providing an invaluable 6 week group course facilitated by our Registered Nurse and coached in (ACT) acceptance and commitment therapy, a mindfulness based cognitive behaviour therapy giving women the tools to be able to assist in their recovery. We provide young parent evenings where education and support are given by our Health Professionals with guest speakers who provide relevant information to support our young parents with parenting skills e.g. CPR, Family Planning, Family Violence, the Role of the Dad, Brain Development and Baby Massage. Our centre offers valuable group sessions such as pelvic floor classes coached by a physio with a specialty in assisting women in the recovery of their pelvic floor, Pilates, yoga and sound bowl classes are also offered by Health Professionals.
