Addiction Recovery Services

MASH is a provider of addiction recovery programmes in Palmerston North and Hawkes Bay. We work with people who are experiencing challenges in their lives due to substance abuse. We walk alongside you in your planned recovery journey in programmes that are about you. The programmes in this service have been developed on recovery principles to enable those with alcohol and/or other drug issues who have simultaneous mental health difficulties to regain or develop control over their lives and begin to establish the skills needed to achieve a life that they feel is fulfilling. Interventions are based on co-existing mental health and substance use frameworks. This service provides various levels of care to assist people within the MidCentral and Hawkes Bay DHB area who are experiencing significant impairment to the function of their everyday life due to their alcohol and/or other drug use. We believe in people and their ability to make changes. WHARE HAUMARU | SUPPORTED COMMUNITY LIVING Whare Haumaru support people in emergency housing experiencing homelessness, who may have physical and/or mental health needs, and other barriers such as bad credit, making it difficult to access sustainable and healthy homes. Description

WHARE HAUMARU | SUPPORTED COMMUNITY LIVING 

Whare Haumaru support people in emergency housing experiencing homelessness, who may have physical and/or mental health needs, and other barriers such as bad credit, making it difficult to access sustainable and healthy homes. Supported homes for people with mental health conditions. We provide mental health support homes in Manawatū, and Wellington region with several living options depending on the level of need and support you require. This is identified through a Needs Assessment which is completed by Te Whatu Ora | Health NZ MidCentral or Wellington. Our homes are staffed 24/7 by staff that are trained and highly skilled in support work. They will work with you on your mental health recovery, supporting you to identify and achieve goals. Living in our supported homes you will share household tasks and cooking with flatmates, develop a healthy lifestyle, and receive support for developing skills for budgeting, shopping, and healthy eating. How to access Mental Health Residential Support

We cannot accept self-referrals.  If you believe you would benefit from living in a MASH supported home, please discuss this with your care manager or Needs Assessor.  

Description

Our respite home is a warm quiet flat in central Palmerston North. Our support staff are available 24/7 to support you, working in the units next door.  

There is no cost to stay at our respite home and food is provided, you are just responsible for keeping the home tidy. 

Child/Youth Crisis Respite Service - Te Matai House

YOUTH RESPITE STAYS MASH provides respite short term stays of up to seven days for young people aged between 5-18 years who are experiencing mental health issues or need a break from their everyday environment in Palmerston North. The goals of youth respite are safety, stabilisation, and ongoing treatment in a youth friendly home environment in a rural setting, supported by confident and competent youth workers. Once an initial assessment has taken place and the young person meets the eligibility criteria, access to this service can be immediate if there is a vacancy available.

LUCK is a buzzing social hub that provides a place of connection in the heart of Palmerston North. Friendship Facilitation Service

The Friendship Facilitation service was created through the Ministry of Health after the closure of the Kimberley Centre in October 2006. The Friendship Facilitation service is for ex residents of the Kimberley Centre who are also supported by other community service providers and covers the Kapiti Coast, Horowhenua and Manawatu regions. The aim of volunteering within the Friendship Service is to enhance social and leisure opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and to promote inclusion into their community. This is done by matching a volunteer with a person who has intellectual disabilities by finding out similar interests and hobbies. People from all walks of life are encouraged to become volunteers as everyone has skills and gifts which they can pass onto others. In return MASH offers training for people committed to the relationship. There are no special qualifications or experience needed to befriend another person. Some of the characteristics we are looking for are to be: Caring Patient Supportive Empathic Empowering Sociable Committed Reliable Team player Some of the activities you can do while volunteering are: Go to a cafe and enjoy socialising over a cup of coffee Enjoy a quiet walk along the beach, park or bush walking Get involved in gardening, pot planting, growing herbs or vegetables Visit the Living Plus day services Get involved in arts and crafts Participate in special occasions such as birthdays, movies or going to a rugby game. The Friendship Facilitation service was created through the Ministry of Health after the closure of the Kimberley Centre in October 2006.
