Description

We are family centred, child focused and dedicated to strengthening families and fostering the healthy development of children. We provide social services direct to Auckland’s Pacific populations, focusing on the wider social challenges facing Pacific Island peoples focusing on supporting families in the areas of domestic violence, substance abuse, relationships, parenting and youth offending.

We welcome all cultures within our community to access our services.

We provide support in the following areas:

  • Other social work support 

    Aim - Empowering Pacific Island people to take charge of their lives and those of their family/families to enjoy and participate in developing New Zealand Society.

    Vision - To deliver social services for Pacific Island peoples and bring together social work providers to service Pacific Island people and better coordinate delivery and outcome(s).

Abuse and violence support

We provide education programmes and individual counselling for those affected by domestic violence; men, women and children.

Stopping violence services

We offer programmes which focus on empowering participants to make positive choices when managing their emotions in order to keep themselves and those around them safe. Vaka Pasifika currently offer two programmes including; To'a 'i loto (strength within) is for men. Fisi (blossom) has been created for our women Both programmes aim to develop skills to recognize triggers, solutions, the impact of our actions on others, and the ability to make positive choices for ourselves and those around us.

Youth Services

Young Champions – a group programme that supports the youth to be able to make positive choices to encourage positive life outcomes. This programme is only available in group settings. Mentoring – one on one mentoring that supports in the following areas: Peer Pressure Offending Identity Self Esteem

Pregnancy and parenting

Our parenting support helps to identify the issues that are present between parent(s) and their children and offer the skills to help build and maintain a positive relationship between them. This service is offered face to face or online.

Advocacy

Vaka Pasifika can support you to work with other organizations including govt and non-govt departments, with the view that you will gain the skills and confidence to advocate for yourself.

COVID-19 Vaccination

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is an important step you can take to protect yourself, your kaumātua and whānau from the effects of the virus. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccines and eligibility visit Ministry of Health - COVID-19 vaccines Covid-19 vaccines can be administered before, after, or at the same time as other national schedule vaccines. When the Nuvaxovid vaccine is given at the same time as the Shingrix shingles vaccine or the Fluad Quad flu vaccine, there may be a chance of experiencing a stronger post-vaccination response and you should discuss this with your vaccinator.
