MidCentral DHB Chaplains

Cancer Network Group Service

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The Palmerston North Hospital Pastoral/Spiritual Care team provide spiritual support for patients, relatives and hospital staff.

Why should I see a pastoral care person?

Chaplains are not just around when people die and are not just for religious people.

People who are ill often ask themselves serious questions about life and death:

  • Why am I suffering?
  • Does my life have any value?
  • What is the purpose of it all?

Sometimes it helps to have someone alongside to think things through - someone with the time to listen.

You may have something to celebrate, something you are thankful for, or something to get off your chest. We can help in all these things.

Our team will not:

  • preach at you and criticise
  • push religion on you
  • tell your relatives anything you don't want them to know
  • visit too long.

But we will:

  • listen and be alongside you
  • help you in your healing and recovery
  • offer prayers if you wish.

Like all hospital staff we are bound by strict confidentiality rules.
