Description
Social workers are available to assist patients and their families with the personal, social and emotional issues that arise due to illness.
Social workers can talk with patients about:
- Changing Health
When changed health and personal or social problems feel overwhelming. - Emotional Stress
When you are stressed trying to manage sickness or disability; either your own or those of someone close to you. - Grief and Loss
When sudden loss or significant change in health occur. - Relationship Issues
When relationships become stressed due to the emotional and social impact of changing health. - Complex Problem Solving
When you are sick and need assistance with practical matters. - Information Sharing
We have a comprehensive directory of community services and agencies. - Low Mood
When changed health and personal or social problems are affecting your mood. - Safety
We are professionally trained to assess each situation and make plans for your safety or the safety of a family member.
Cultural Support
Our social work service can request cultural support services or independent interpreting services to assist as needed.
Referral Expectations
If you, or your friend/relative, are an inpatient please ask your nurse or doctor to refer to our service.
We are also happy to accept self referrals.
Charges
There is no charge for our service.

We are based at North Shore Hospital on the Lower Ground Floor and at Waitakere Hospital.
