Profile

Years of practice: over 20 years.

Philosophy of care: I am passionate about continuity of care within the primary care setting and specialise in natural birth, water birth and home birth.

Back up midwives: Keryn Mills & Stephanie Murray

Birth facilities attended: home birthing and Pukekohe Primary Birthing Unit. I will transfer women to Middlemore Hospital in the event of complications.

General bio: I am married and live in Pukekohe. I have two grown children; my daughter and her partner live locally and work in Auckland and my son lives and works in the US. I am active in the NZ College of Midwives, our midwifery professional organisation. I attend NZCOM meetings regularly as well as management and Access meetings at CMDHB. One of my colleagues, whom I have worked alongside for a number of years, and I were instrumental in setting up the Pukekohe Maternity Resource Centre. The first of its kind in NZ, this is an initiative to enable rural women to have full access to information and services about pregnancy. It was also to assist midwives working in the Franklin area to have the assistance of a practice management system. This resource centre has proved invaluable to the women of the area.

Throughout my years of nursing and midwifery I have gained knowledge and experience in using complementary therapies. This I am able to share with women who may choose to use such remedies during their pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

I am proud to be associated with The Pukekohe Birthing Unit Midwives.
