ACC-registered Rongoā Māori Service, Kaupapa Māori
Description
Mauri Tau Unfolding is an ACC-registered Rongoā Māori practitioner based in Hastings.
Mauri Tau Unfolding
Eddie Ngatai is a Rongoā Māori practitioner and the founder of Mauritau Unfolding, offering a deeply respectful, sacred space for emotional healing that supports people to return to balance and clarity – their true nature.
Eddie works with individuals, whānau, groups, and communities through 1:1 sessions, workshops, and retreats, both in person and online, supporting people nationwide. His practice is grounded in mātauranga Māori and the understanding that all suffering begins with an unseen story held within the mind. Eddie’s role is to gently reveal what is hidden into the light, allowing healing to unfold naturally through eyes of peace and clarity. Your true nature
People commonly come to Eddie for support with anxiety, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, chronic pain, sleep challenges, nervous system regulation, cultural and spiritual healing, women’s health, men’s wellbeing, and whānau support. Many who find their way to Eddie are at a turning point — beginning to realise who they are not, and ready to discover who they truly are.
Eddie offers care that is intuitive, indigenously rooted, and deeply human, creating a safe space where healing is the true essence of yourself remembered

Eddie Ngatai: ACC-registered Rongoā Māori Practitioner
I grew up in a predominantly Māori setting. I am grateful to experience an era where our old people lived and expressed themselves with the power and grace of Mauri. On the other extreme was my personal challenge of human suffering. I experienced the trauma of separation as a baby, creating serious health problems and then witnessed violence growing up.
The outcome was an unsettled life, feeling like I didn’t fit in and belong anywhere and unconsciously looking externally for love and to be wanted. The pattern was set of unhappiness, addiction and dysfunctional relationships.
I initially worked as a youth worker then as a family violence facilitator for over 30 years. I have continued to work with individuals and couples. I trained as clinical hypnotherapist and spent a short time involved with Restorative Justice. There was an unconscious seeking to heal an emptiness inside and seeking an answer to why we have to suffer?
In 2001 I met and worked with a Māori Tohunga (High priest or Shaman). His humble but deep integrity was reflected in his profound work and miraculous healings. For me to witness something happening beyond mainstream health, and experience the living expression of how our ancestors worked, was an enchanting privilege.
The ending of another relationship led me to the Leela School of awakening as a therapist. It helped me discover and deepen into Mauri. Bringing to life what was always innate within.

Services Provided
ACC Rongoā Māori ACC recognise rongoā Māori as a kaupapa Māori service. It's culturally grounded care that weaves tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, and te ao Māori through all aspects of the service. We respect that these aspects embrace ngā taonga tuku iho (intergenerational gifts and knowledge handed down from tupuna Māori). We see rongoā Māori in the wider context of traditional Māori healing methodologies. ACC don't consider healing techniques from non-Māori cultural traditions, such as reiki or hyperbaric oxygen treatment, part of rongoā Māori. Even if they're provided by rongoā Māori practitioners.
