Any Cancer. Any Question. Phone 0800 CANCER (226 237)
For someone living with cancer, practical and emotional support is incredibly important. Cancer Society is committed to providing professional supportive care to those going through cancer and their supporters.
Cancer Information:
Our experienced cancer information nurses provide personalised support by phone through the 0800 Cancer Information Helpline and in person at Domain Lodge. This free service ensures that anyone facing a cancer diagnosis, or supporting someone with a cancer diagnosis, has easy access to a trained cancer support nurse specialist to help them understand their cancer, its treatment and find support.
Psychological Service:
During individual sessions, our psychologists and counsellors offer support and skills to help people cope with difficult emotions, manage relationships, deal with uncertainty, make decisions, and regain confidence.
In group sessions and informal talks (webinar or at Domain Lodge) our psychologists provide the opportunity for people affected by cancer to meet others in a similar situation and learn practical skills.
Cancer Support Nurse Specialists:
Our qualified cancer support nurse specialists provide practical support to people recently diagnosed with cancer and their families, with a particular focus on those receiving treatment.
In the comfort of people’s own homes, our community-based nurses listen, answer questions about cancer, advise how to manage cancer symptoms and treatment side effects, and assist with overcoming practical difficulties like travelling to treatment.
Social Work Service:
The social work service is available to patients and their whānau/supporters in Auckland and Northland. Our registered social workers can visit and phone to provide information / resources, advocacy, and support relevant to your needs.
Free Cancer Talks:
Group programmes provide an opportunity for adults with cancer and their supporters to learn strategies for coping with cancer. These groups are FREE. See website for further details.
