Cancer Society Northland

Description

The Cancer Society of New Zealand is an independent non-government organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in the community through research, support, information and health promotion.

Regarded as one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, the Cancer Society is reliant on donations and bequests.

The services we offer include:

  • Psychosocial support from experienced nurses and social worker.   Providing advice on cancer related concerns, practical issues, assistance with transport and accommodation.
  • Domain Lodge is an accommodation service for those having cancer treatment in Auckland
  • Cancer Prevention- screening and early detection, advocacy on preventing cancer
  • We also are a major private funder of cancer research
  •  Kia ora E te iwi (KOETI) is a Kaupapa Māori wananga that is available for Māori communities and community organisations.

Our nurses focus on supporting patients during diagnosis, cancer treatment and life after treatment. They are available to visit people at home, or provide support over the phone as required.

We have partnerships with Māori providers who have nurses who work in collaboration to cover Northland.   The exception being the mid North where an employed Cancer Society nurse covers the area.

Cancer Society Northland covers the area between Kaiwaka in the South and Cape Reinga in the North, and is part of the Cancer Society Auckland Northland division.

In terms of cancer prevention, Cancer Society Northland works collaboratively with other community groups to achieve healthy public policy and to promote healthy lifestyle choices.

There are many ways to support the Cancer Society and people living with cancer in your community.
