Hāpai Te Rongoā

Community Health Service, Kaupapa Māori

Description

Hāpai Te Rongoā is an ACC-registered Rongoā Māori practitioner based in Heretaunga.

Based in a clinic space at Las Palmas Building in Hastings, I offer the traditional healing art of Mirimiri Romiromi. Each session is a one-hour journey towards wellness.

Our Kaupapa Māori Approach: Embracing kaupapa Māori, our mirimiri romiromi services weave together tikanga Māori (customs), mātauranga Māori (knowledge), te reo Māori (language), and te ao Māori (worldview) into a tapestry of holistic healing. We treat more than just physical ailments; we nurture the whole being, aiming to rejuvenate your mana (prestige/power) and mauri (life force). Integral to our sessions are karakia (prayers) and whakawhiti kōrero (dialogues), ensuring a culturally immersive and spiritually enriching experience that concludes with a closing karakia.

Please note, the clinic is not equipped with wheelchair access, and services are provided exclusively at this location.

Lisa Marie Tuhi - ACC-Registered Rongoā Māori Practitioner

Ko Moumoukai te maunga

Ko Waitirohia tae atu ki Nuhaka ngā awa

Ko Rākaipaaka te iwi

My knowledge is underpinned by my upbringing (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine, Rongowhakaata, Te Aitanga ā Mahaki, Whakatōhea, Tuhoe me Ngāti Whare), where from childhood my grandmother, nannies and great-aunts would use rongoā for healing.

After becoming a mother and being influenced by my work in te taiao (in nature), ancestral practices of mahinga kai, food sovereignty and parakore as a holistic way of wellbeing, and an innate understanding of environmental based approaches to education and living, my passion for rongoā was reignited.

Currently training in Mirimiri Romiromi, a holistic form of spiritual bodywork.  Learning under the guidance of Cran Gage has been instrumental in my education on traditional healing from Te Whare Wānanga o Hohepa Delamere.

Completing formal studies with a Certificate of Relaxation Massage and Rongoā Māori course through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.  In a notable achievement, becoming a registered Rongoā Practitioner under ACC Rongoā Māori in May 2024.

Services Provided

ACC Rongoā Māori

ACC Rongoā Māori ACC recognise rongoā Māori as a kaupapa Māori service. It's culturally grounded care that weaves tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, and te ao Māori through all aspects of the service. We respect that these aspects embrace ngā taonga tuku iho (intergenerational gifts and knowledge handed down from tupuna Māori). We see rongoā Māori in the wider context of traditional Māori healing methodologies. ACC don't consider healing techniques from non-Māori cultural traditions, such as reiki or hyperbaric oxygen treatment, part of rongoā Māori. Even if they're provided by rongoā Māori practitioners.
