Kia Haumaru - Personal Safety Education is a network of trained and accredited Personal Safety Educators equipping women, girls and persons of marginalised genders with the skills and strategies to keep safe.

Courses are run through schools and other community organisations.

The network works predominantly with women. We have teachers from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and have customised courses for Primary, Intermediate, Secondary, Tertiary students, adult women and gender and sexual minorities.

Abuse and violence support

Girls and Womens Safety programmes: A range of courses are available for women, including transgender/takatāpui, which can be tailor made to each group’s needs. These programmes are designed to empower women with the knowledge, attitudes, skills and strategies to effectively prevent and resist violence (including sexual and family violence), and to positively change disempowering societal attitudes which lead to violence. The Girls Self Defence programme covers basic physical techniques; reinforce assertiveness, boundary-setting skills and verbal techniques; and offer age-appropriate information about issues of abuse.
