Porirua Whānau Centre is the 'hub' for the community, enhancing the health, social, education and economic wellbeing of our children and families.

We are a Kaupapa Māori organisation providing culturally appropriate and integrated services for whānau, including:

Abuse and violence support

We provide support for Tane and Wahine referrals relating to violence, including counselling for individuals, couples and family members. We are also the lead agency for the Porirua Family Violence Prevention Network, an integrated and multi-faceted organisation dedicated to stamping out family violence and assisting those who suffer as a result of it.

We provide court mandated non-violence and safety programmes for Māori and Pacific delivered through a Kaupapa Maori lens.

Accommodation and housing support

The Porirua Whānau Centre is one of two registered Community Housing Providers for the Wellington region. We currently own and manage properties to ensure whānau have an opportunity to gain access to safe, warm and affordable housing.

Budgeting and help with debt

Porirua Whānau Centre provides budgeting services including our Building Financial Capability programme, support from our Financial Mentors and our Money Matters peer-led support group.

Youth Services

We provide in-school resilience programmes for tamariki aged 5-9 years; addressing issues involving bullying, truancy, obesity and anti-social behaviours. We run a Mana Motuhake programme for rangatahi aged 16-25 years to help them to achieve further education and employment. We also run Holiday Programmes.

We have a great team of Youth Advocates ready to work with our youth, providing intervention support, transition them into training, employment and education opportunities.

Porirua Whānau Centre offers a licensed Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centre that follows NZ Te Whāriki, the Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood curriculum, and endorses Ka Hikita, the Maori Education Strategy. We are multi-cultural, speaking English, Māori and Samoan.

Matua Power

The Matua Power is a community programme run by the Porirua Whānau Centre that caters to the needs of 65+ Matua. The main purpose is to ensure our Matua stay mobile and connected in their community, by implementing a programme that promotes health and wellness and improves their quality of life physically, mentally, and socially.
