Description
SeniorNet Eastern Bays is a voluntary organisation that runs a range of computer courses for older adults, mainly over the age of 50. It has more than 100 members that attend its classes and regular monthly information meetings, some with guest speakers and others in discussion groups to review problem solving issues.
SeniorNet originated in the United States in 1986 and was introduced to New Zealand 24 years ago. There are over 80 learning centres in NZ. The Eastern Bays learning centre has been serving the community for 16 years. Our present learning centre is located in the 7th Day Adventist Church, 118 Apirana Avenue, Glen Innes (Corner of Apirana Ave & Eastview Rd) with ample parking at the rear of the church building.
SeniorNet offers people the ideal way to become familiar with using a computer, laptop, iPad, tablet and related equipment.
Enjoy the company of people who, like you, are endeavouring to acquire new skills and expand their knowledge. Enjoy our monthly meetings, held at the rooms where guest speakers address us on subjects that are of interest to most of our members. Our discussion groups are set up with the express purpose of answering our members’ questions and solving their computer problems.
Whether you are a complete beginner or have a little more experience, we have courses to help you get more out of technology. We can help you to learn to search the Internet, send emails, enjoy digital photography, listen to music, watch videos and communicate with people all over the world. Classes cover the Microsoft Windows systems as well as the Apple iPad, iPhone and Android phone & tablet users.
Our tutors are volunteers whose reward is seeing people learning to enjoy their computers. Our courses are carefully designed to make learning easier for our age group. Course notes become the property of the students so that they can practise at home on their own computer, in their own time, and refer to the notes later for follow up.
Personal help is given in the classroom, in discussion groups that are held each month.
We help you to keep your brain nimble, communicate with family and friends, and catch up with the latest technology. We all work to teach you to use your computer and share our knowledge with you.
For those who can already use the Internet you can find out more at our website www.sneb.org.nz or contact us by telephone (09) 528 2751.
