Registration and qualifications
All practising dentists, dental specialists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons must be registered with the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ) and have an annual practising certificate. To be registered they must hold an appropriate qualification, be competent in a “scope of practice” that will describe what they are entitled to do and be fit for registration according to the rules of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCAA).
