Dr Bernard Wong

Bernard obtained his medical degree at the University of Auckland and trained to become a cardiologist in the Auckland region. He is currently appointed as a general and interventional cardiologist at North Shore Hospital in Auckland.

In 2021-2022, Bernard undertook a coronary intervention fellowship at the Prince of Wales in Hong Kong after being awarded the prestigious John Ormiston Fellowship from the New Zealand Heart Foundation. During that time, he gained experience in Complex and High-Risk Interventional Procedures (CHIP) and Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) under the tutelage of world-renowned CTO master Dr. Eugene Wu.

He is actively involved with clinical research in various areas of cardiology, and currently leads the Cardiology Research Unit at North Shore Hospital, Te Whatu Ora Waitemata.

Originally from Hong Kong, Bernard is also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.

Outside of work, Bernard enjoys travelling, cooking, sports and spending time with his family.

Bernard has subspecialty interest in ischaemic heart disease, in particular percutaneous management of coronary calcification where he is completing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Auckland. He also has an interest in coronary physiology, intravascular imaging, non-invasive imaging, cardiomyopathies, heart failure and preventative cardiology.
