Profile

Dr Paul Ockelford is a clinical haematologist with a particular expertise in haemostasis and thrombosis, but does consult on a wide range of malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders.

In addition to his consulting practice in Epsom, Paul has a part-time appointment to the Auckland City Hospital Haematology Unit and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Auckland School of Medicine.

Paul is Director of the Adult Haemophilia Centre at Auckland City Hospital. He directs the Thrombosis Unit at Auckland City Hospital and maintains an active research programme in the treatment of venous thromboembolism.

Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, a member of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, a past vice president of the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, a member of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand and a member of the American Society for Haematology.

Paul serves on the Medical Advisory panel for the New Zealand Haemophilia Foundation and is an elected member of the National Haemophilia Management Group. He is also a reviewer for the "Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis" and is an investigator for a number of international clinical thrombosis trials.

He is a former Chairman of the New Zealand Medical Association and is on the Haematology Subcommittee of PTAC.
