Profile

Dr Barker started his medical career in London in 1998. Following completion of basic physician training in Wellington in 2009 he decided to undertake advanced training in both Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology in New Zealand and in Sydney, Australia. This provided experience in allergy as well as training in autoimmunity and the management of immunosuppressive medications, care of patients with reduced immunity including HIV and pathology (laboratory medicine) which led to an additional specialist qualification (FRCPA). Since fellowship he worked as a locum consultant in Christchurch and then again in Wellington from 2016-18, including a year as the Clinical Leader of the service there. He returned to Auckland in late 2018.
