Dr Simon Dean

Dr Dean is a specialist eye surgeon with an MSc degree in Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He can offer a tailored solution for not only cataracts, but also the latest in surgical and non-surgical techniques of vision correction, including premium intraocular lenses and corneal collagen crosslinking for keratoconus.

Dr Dean also has advanced training in functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery, and with a background in general ophthalmology, he combines this experience to provide the best treatment options for each individual.

Dr Dean currently works most of his time in the public hospital system at Manukau Superclinic CMDHB, but is also available for consultations privately through Re : Vision Laser & Cataract Centre in Mount Wellington, Auckland.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Dean is active in teaching and research and is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences and has published numerous papers in the peer reviewed scientific literature. With a keen interest in photography and optics, he has designed and built a number of ophthalmic instruments, including a corneal collagen crosslinking device.

Dr Dean is also an Optics Examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Dean completed fellowship training in the UK in oculoplastics and ocular oncology at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow, followed by cataracts and anterior segment in the Bedford branch of Moorfields Eye Hospital. He also holds fellowship of the British Contact Lens Association, by examination.
