Tamara is a general and colorectal surgeon with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel conditions and colorectal cancer. After completing surgical training in the North Island of New Zealand, she undertook sub-specialty training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She then went on to complete the Australasian Colorectal Training Program (with CSSANZ) with placements in Melbourne (St Vincent’s) and Leeds (St James’ Hospital) before finding her ‘forever home’ in Christchurch, NZ. Tamara works at Christchurch Hospital, where she has taken on the Exenteration service established by Professor Frizelle, working alongside a variety to specialists to manage complex pelvic malignancy.
As a senior lecturer with the University of Otago Christchurch, she has completed a PhD in colorectal cancer in inflammatory bowel disease and is particularly interested in early onset colorectal cancer and the molecular underpinnings of colorectal disease.
In past lives, she has been heavily involved in karate and ballet but now enjoys running (mainly after her children and pets!), art and reading.
