How do the Different Eye/Vision Specialists work Together?
Optometrists usually work alongside dispensing opticians. If the optometrist has tested your eyes and found that you need glasses, they will write a prescription for optical lenses that will be ordered by a dispensing optician. The dispensing optician will advise you about suitable frames and make sure they fit correctly.
Optometrists and ophthalmologists sometimes share the care of patients. For example these patients are seen alternately by these two professions and reports will be shared. The optometrist will make an immediate referral to a hospital or a private ophthalmology clinic if s/he feels a patient needs surgery or where they suspect a patient risks blindness or visual impairment.
