Coran grew up in Whangārei and has degrees in both Medicine and Pharmacy from Otago University. He worked as a registered Pharmacist in Queenstown before continuing his studies and practising Medicine. A highlight of his training was the time he spent working with the doctor for the North Queensland Cowboys professional rugby league team.
Coran has done further training in Skin Cancer Medicine and has a strong special interest in this area. He enjoys doing full skin cancer checks and minor surgical procedures.
Coran enjoys many sports, particularly golf and snowboarding. He lives with his wife Amy and their cat Pickles. Amy is from Texas, so they travel there when possible to see family and eat too much.

The term "vocational registration" indicates that this doctor has done some additional years of further study and has passed comprehensive examinations set by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
