Profile

Dr Leon Wright is delighted to be returning to Central Otago (from where his family originate) after 20 years working overseas in Australia and Ireland. He holds Fellowship in the New Zealand and Australian College of General Practitioners and is a Member of the Irish College.

His interest in medicine and well-being stems from his youth in Dunedin where he was a member of the St John's Ambulance Brigade. His first degree was in Microbiology (Honours) which was then followed by his medical degree from the University of Otago. In addition, he has gained further qualifications in Obstetrics and General Practice. A passionate rural GP, he is also highly experienced in the fields of Trauma, Paediatrics and Dermatology.

Leon is a keen history buff and enjoys travelling and gardening. He is looking forward to being able to plant and grow New Zealand native plant varieties undisturbed, after spending his weekends in Australia chasing wombats, snakes and kangaroos out of his garden.
