Profile
Experienced GP with special training in Child Health, Rural Hosp Medicine & teaches Rural Cardio/Resp Medicine at Otago University.
I have a keen interest in rural medicine and as such have trained as a Rural Generalist. I have completed the NZ General Practice training programme and now work in Rural General Practice. Prior to my GP training I did some work in Paediatrics completing a Paediatric diploma. I have also completed the training programme for Rural Hospital Medicine and now have a part time appointment working at Dunstan hospital to compliment my GP work.
I undertook advanced skill set training in anaesthetics during my Hospital training, which has led to me having an interest in procedural sedation and ventilation in Rural Hospitals. I also have an interest in working in poor and disadvantaged communities overseas and in the past have worked in rural Papua New Guinea & the Cook Islands. I hope to continue this work in short term stints in the future.
Finally, I enjoy teaching and am part of the University of Otago Rural Postgraduate Programme faculty helping to convene a paper.
I live in Alexandra with my wife, two daughters & son. We enjoy the area and are committed to living in Rural New Zealand. We enjoy outdoor activities including cycling, tramping and getting up in the hills.
