Profile

Kia ora, I was born in the Netherlands, where I grew up and went to medical school.

From 2005 until 2016, I worked in South Africa as a doctor, mainly doing general surgery and orthopaedic surgery in large hospitals. During this time, I obtained a higher diploma in orthopaedics and a higher diploma in general surgery from the College of Medicine of South Africa. Due to my time in South Africa, I have developed a special interest in minor surgery and musculoskeletal medicine.

In 2016 I moved back to the Netherlands to complete my training in family medicine. I qualified as a family physician in the Netherlands in 2019.

In 2020, just before the pandemic, I moved to Timaru with my wife and two children. We soon felt at home and decided to settle here permanently. We live on a lifestyle block just outside town.

In 2022 I obtained the fellowship from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.

I believe in a small GP practice that provides high quality personal care to everybody. By keeping the practice small, my patients and I get to know each other and patients know what to expect from me as their doctor. I believe continuity of care is an essential part of primary health care.

I enjoy spending time with my family and I like tramping, mountain biking and skiing. I am addicted to running and reading the news.
