Services Provided

Immigration Medicals

Applicants for New Zealand visas may be required to provide medical and chest x-ray certificates to demonstrate an acceptable standard of health. Immigration New Zealand uses eMedical, an online platform for processing immigration health examinations. The examining doctor records the applicant’s health examination results in eMedical then electronically submits them to Immigration New Zealand where they are associated with the applicant’s visa application once it is submitted. Only doctors who have been approved by Immigration NZ are able to conduct the medical examinations. The immigration officer who assesses the applicant’s visa application will determine whether they have an acceptable standard of health. Visa applicants requiring an immigration medical examination must make an appointment with an eMedical enabled clinic on Immigration New Zealand’s approved list. We endeavour to provide a convenient and efficient service for immigration medicals in Invercargill. Patients will have their medical check-up and urine tests done at the appointment. Referrals will be given for the completion of blood tests and X-rays. From 1 April 2015, Immigration New Zealand have changed the way immigration medicals are conducted from paper forms to an online service called eMedical. eMedicals can only be done by select providers. We are a provider of immigration eMedical examinations for Immigration New Zealand. As an eMedical provider, we are no longer be able to complete paper forms for immigration medicals; they will all be completed and sent online. South City Medical Centre will only require a follow up consultation if abnormalities are found in the results. Further consultations and tests will incur extra charges which you will be made aware of if these are required. At South City Medical Centre, we do try to keep prices to a minimum, but we have no authority over the cost of blood tests and X-rays as these are provided by an external provider. Please bring your passport with you to the appointment. Photos will be taken to attach to the eMedical. These are taken according to strict New Zealand Immigration policy, so please ensure no head wear (unless religious) and, if you normally wear glasses, to also bring them. South City Medical Centre is a multi-lingual practice and every effort will be made to ensure there is no communication difficulty. If you foresee any problems, please do not hesitate to let the staff know at the time of booking and we will try and help. Cost: $250 per person. 11 years below POA.

Adult and Child Medical Care

Your GP's surgery is far more than a place to go when you are feeling unwell and needing a quick cure. The doctor who sees you has gone through an extensive medical training to equip her or him to help children and adults of all ages with a range of physical and emotional difficulties. GPs are at the centre of the healthcare hub and will be aware of services and expertise that are available locally and further-a-field. GPs are also aware of the link that stress and unhappy life events have on physical health so know when to suggest a talking therapy rather than medication.

Repeat Prescriptions

Each GP surgery or primary care practice will have its own procedure for repeat prescribing but the following rules are common to most, if not all. Patients who are well-known to the practice who have a stable condition like asthma, hypertension or diabetes could be allowed to get a repeat prescription for up to six months. Repeat prescriptions are never given to patients who are not known to the practice and there is probably a blanket ban on repeats for narcotics and other drugs that could be misused as doctors are expected to monitor these drugs carefully.
