Profile

Dr D Jogia completed his medical training at Auckland Medical School in 1994. He then trained at St Vincent's Public Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and then completed his cardiology training at Concord Hospital in Sydney.

He attained a PhD in molecular cardiology in the field of fluoroscopic cardiac gene labelling, developing techniques at The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney for 3 years. During this time he had the opportunity to learn echocardiography from the Prof Michael Feneley before returning to New Zealand as a cardiologist at Waikato Hospital. He worked at Waikato Hospital for nearly 10 years before becoming Director of the Heart Care Centre in Hamilton. Time permitting, he continues to do research.

He believes that listening to the patient's concerns is essential for good medicine. It is important for the patient to understand their illness and incumbent on the doctor to inform the patient, so that the patient can make informed decisions about their health.

The investigations outlined (above) are performed by Dr Jogia and results are explained to patients during the investigations, and patients have an opportunity to interact with him and ask questions. Treatment strategies appropriate for the patient are then discussed and implemented.
