Dr Marian Carter completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Auckland before undertaking specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at National Women’s Hospital in Auckland. She then completed her training in the United Kingdom, where she worked for five years.

Marian was the Clinical Research Registrar for the IVF unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before returning to New Zealand in 1989 where she was appointed as part-time specialist at National Women’s Hospital and commenced private practice.
