Dr Jo-Anne Pon undertook her ophthalmology training in Dunedin, Hamilton, Auckland and Christchurch. After completing her registrar training, she spent a year as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne gaining further experience in her subspecialty interests of Oculoplastics, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She went on to work at the Eye Care Centre, Vancouver General Hospital, where she did fellowships in Oculoplastics with Dr Peter Dolman, and in Neuro-ophthalmology with Drs Duncan Anderson and Jason Barton. With Dr Peter Dolman, she learnt a unique technique of performing endonasal (via the nose) dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) to treat tearing problems caused by blocked tear ducts.
In 2010, Jo-Anne returned to Christchurch to work at Southern Eye Specialists and Christchurch Hospital, where she is involved in registrar training and education.
