Pilar attended medical school at the Universitat de Valencia, Spain, and trained as a radiologist in Hospital de Terrassa, Barcelona, Spain. She worked as a radiologist in Spain before settling in Auckland in 2008.
She is a radiologist at ADHB (Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre) and Mercy Radiology. She also does remote reporting for Hospital Nueve de Octubre in Valencia, Spain.
