Midwifery Service

Description

We are experienced midwives working in West Auckland and we offer a different kind of service. We work together as a very close team to deliver optimal care and when you book with one midwife, you automatically have two caring for you.

This has many advantages, the main one being that you know the 'back-up midwife' as well as you do your LMC.

It also means two experts to solve any problems, two sets of hands to assess the wellbeing of both you and your baby and two of us to support you through this miraculous adventure.

Our midwives are:

We cover the whole of the West Auckland area.  We choose to provide labour care mainly at Waitakere Hospital but may sometimes continue labour care at North Shore Hospital if your pregnancy care changes and requires you to birth at North Shore Hospital due to complications.  We do not provide labour/birth care at Auckland Hospital.  We are happy for you to use either Helensville Birthing Centre or Parnell Birthcare for your postnatal stay.

Congratulations on becoming pregnant. We are delighted that you have visited our website and we look forward to providing you with warm, friendly, expert care.

Staying at a birthing centre or hospital after giving birth

Your stay at a birthing centre or hospital after giving birth will usually be up to 2 days, or 2-5 days if you have had a caesarean. During this time you will have regular visits from your midwife and be supported to care and feed your baby. After the birth you will be tired and busy getting to know your new baby. Most women who have had a normal birth stay in the hospital or birth centre for 48 hours. If you have had a caesarean section, the usual hospital stay is 3-5 days. There may be an option to have your postnatal stay in a primary unit if you have given birth at hospital. Some women choose to go straight home after birth, this is called a planned early discharge. Talk to your midwife about your postnatal stay and make sure your family know what your plan is. We will endeavour to visit you each day that you are in hospital after your baby is born. We are then funded for 5 home visits. (7 home visits should you choose to go home the first day).
