Description

Mind Set Engage, New Zealand Rugby's free mental health and wellbeing programme, aims to support rugby environments to be places where help-seeking is encouraged and stigma related language and behaviour is reduced, resulting in a compassionate and supportive response. The target audiences are rugby players and key enablers involved in creating mentally healthy spaces such as club leaders, coaches, managers, parents, whānau and the wider rugby community.

Programmes

Self Help Resources and Face-to-Face Workshops

The programme is accessible via online resources and face-to-face workshops delivered in rugby clubs and high schools across the motu. Educational resources are provided to each of the 482 clubs such as posters, wallet cards and booklets and to all that request them, an in-depth website www.mindsetengage.co.nz (which includes self tests, downloadable resources and player voices speaking to wellbeing challenges). Creative public-facing campaigns using rugby’s reach is aimed is at reducing stigma and normalising the conversation about mental health. The Mind Set Engage team aims to achieve three core goals: To strengthen the individual’s ability and intent to improve or maintain positive mental fitness and utilise effective strategies to cope with challenges in and outside of rugby. To create sustainable environments in the rugby community that encourage conversations about mental health, and support help seeking and receiving. To increase participants ability to recognise signs of distress, how to check-in, where to get help, and to encourage friends, whānau, and team members to find support. Mind Set Engage Workshops | Mind. Set. Engage. Mind Set Engage also collaborates with wellbeing services across each region to ensure anyone accessing our programme know where to go within their city for mental health and general wellbeing support. Clubs are linked up with these service providers personally and made aware of all services offered for future use. Within schools we ensure students have identified and know how to connect with their supports within the environment and youth services in the community.
