Description
Te Hiringa Matua provide support for mama, hapu mama and their whānau dealing with drug and alcohol issues using Mahi-a-Atua and matauranga Māori. Our team of Mataora are a mix of social workers and traditional Māori artists providing support through 'wananga' and individual follow up in the community.
Our wananga include - Purakau (Histories and Story-sharing), Karakia/Waiata (Ancient Prayer/Rituals), Mau rakau (Traditional Māori Weaponary), Taonga Puoro (Traditional Māori Musical Instruments), Nga Mahi a Rehia (Performing Arts), Mirimiri/Romiromi (Traditional Māori Therapies).
Te Hiringa Matua is governed with Hauora Tairāwhiti, Ngāti Porou Hauora, Te Whare Hauora Te Aitanga a Hauiti and Te Hauora O Turanganui a Kiwa Ltd.
Come in for a kōrero with one of the Mataora at 66 Customhouse Street, Gisborne or phone (06) 986 1696 for more information.
