Formerly Taranaki DHB Community Outpatient Services

Our two teams provide community support for adults and new mothers, throughout Taranaki, who are experiencing mental health issues.

We have two community mental health teams - North Taranaki (based at Taranaki Base Hospital) and South Taranaki (based at Hāwera Hospital). Key workers also provide support to individuals in their homes through a mobile outpatient service.

We are a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians including psychiatrist, psychologist, community nurse, social workers and occupational therapists. Each team provides assessment and treatment services at a range of outpatient clinics including Pātea, Stratford, Ōpunake, and Waitara. Our Community Mental Health Services are mobile and can be provided at the hospital base, outpatient clinic or in the home, depending on the individual's need. Psychiatrist services must be accessed at the hospital.

Referral Process

Access to this service must come via a GP referral or through the Taranaki ABC Team or Te Puna Waiora Inpatient Unit.

Individuals may also be referred via another DHB outside of Taranaki, when appropriate.

Perinatal Mental Health Services

This service provides recovery-orientated treatment and support for mothers and babies. Support is provided to mothers who are experiencing acute deterioration in their mental health during pregnancy or during the first 12 months after birth. We are based in North Taranaki but mobile services are available, when needed.
