Description

At Balance in Whanganui we provide Peer Support, Education and Advocacy to people seeking wellbeing and recovery with mental health or addiction issues.

Balance Aotearoa is the National Disabled Persons Organisation (DPO) under the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People and advocates for the rights of people with psychosocial disability/mental health issues in the DPO Coalition.

We believe people living with mental health challenges are not their diagnoses and are people with strengths, experiences and abilities enabling them to pursue and maintain wellbeing.

We have a great staff team consisting of our General Manager, Team Leader, Business Administrator along with our amazing Peer Support and Advocacy Workers with varying hours.

Each and every one of us has something to offer, and often great value can be found through our own lived experiences with mental health struggles and/or addictions. We believe that it is through our relationships with each other that hope and the discovery of what really matters to us can emerge. Balance provides Peer Support services within and Te Awhina, Inpatient Acute Mental Health Service | Whanganui and Stanford House - Extended Term Regional Medium Secure Forensic Service. It also operates as Consumer Consultant working with Te Whatu Ora Whanganui management team and staff to ensure the service users perspective is part of mental health and addictions service planning, policy development and review, recruitment, and service-wide decision-making.
