Housing & Accommodation Support

Independent Living Choices aims to provide assistance with finding affordable, independent housing and practical support around managing a tenancy in the Taupō/Tūrangi and Mangakino areas. They also have accommodation options for short or longer periods however this depends on availability at the time of referral. They assist with accessing benefit entitlements for rent and bond advances, budgeting advice, assistance with setting up rental and power payments, and accessing furniture and household goods should this be necessary. They will also liaise with landlords around any tenancy issues, including mediation and dispute resolution. Independent Living Choices provides a stepping stone for service users to participate in their community of choice and reach their full independence over time. Their focus is on recovery and the ability to create opportunities for oneself, direction and hope. They aim to deliver client focused, culturally appropriate, responsive services. They also support clients who are interested in participating in their Activity Based Programme and/or interests of their choice. They draw upon the expertise of other services/agencies, clinicians, key workers when and if required.

The service is available for clients of the Community Mental Health and Addiction Services in the Taupō/Tūrangi and Mangakino areas.  The pathway to service is via a completed Referral Form from either a Lakes DHB Mental Health Provider or an AOD Counsellor/Community Support Worker.
