Kai mahi from within our roopu provide support to tangata whaiora and whānau whose lives are affected by mental health and/or addictions. Our Whaiora kai mahi help with: completing an assessment for services informing, enabling and empowering whānau accessing information to assist their whānau entering employment or training gaining/regaining relationships with their whānau developing new skills and capabilities provide advocacy where needed

Referral Process
Ngāti Kahu Social and Health Services provide support to primary and secondary health services and so essentially referrals that are made to us are from Child Youth Mental Health and or Adult Mental Health Services. Our role is to work with who make referrals to ensure we develop a plan with our whaiora so that they are supported in the community. In addition, we are able to receive self referrals where we will complete the relevant assessment to assess what services need to be engaged.

Our kai mahi team facilitates the importance of whānaungatanga – e waka eke noa. As our service uses the waka analogy to work with whānau, we actively engage them in waka ama. Waka ama is a traditional Māori canoeing activity that has gained popularity in New Zealand and beyond, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and cultural connection.
Our kai mahi team facilitates the importance of whānaungatanga – e waka eke noa. As our service uses the waka analogy to work with whānau, we actively engage them in waka ama. Waka ama is a traditional Māori canoeing activity that has gained popularity in New Zealand and beyond, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and cultural connection.
Service types: Youth mentoring / development.

In the Kaupapa Māori framework, relationships are built on mutual trust, respect, and whānaungatanga which is why we will help you navigate, advocate and support you either in the justice system, with non-government and government services, employment, housing, education, social and health services. Our social workers work with tamariki in schools who are struggling to engage in the classroom. In addition, we have youth workers that work with rangatahi in secondary schools and hold the Diploma in Whānau Ora. We have dedicated teams who help whānau engage in the available Mental Health and Addiction Services and provide one-to-one support as well as day programmes that suit your needs. All our social workers are experienced, fully qualified, registered and dedicated to making a difference in our communities.
