What the service is

The Manawatu Community Mental Health & Addictions team works with Whaiora (people needing services) and their Whaanau (family), general practitioners/nurse practitioners and other treatment providers to help provide care and promote recovery for adults needing specialist mental health and addiction treatment in our community.

Manawatu Community Mental Health and Addiction Service

This service provides culturally appropriate assessments and treatment for adults from 18 years old living with a moderate to severe level of mental illness residing in the Manawatu region. Services include supportive care/treatment during acute phases of unwellness, medication prescribing and monitoring, individual therapy e.g. DBT (Dialect Behaviour Therapy) , ACT (Acceptance and Committment Therapy) CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), relapse prevention planning and recovery focused work with individual clinicians.

Referral Process

Referrals are accepted via self-referral, GP or community agencies for individuals, aged 18 years plus, in Palmerston North.

Existing service users are encouraged to contact their care coordinator in the first instance.

Eating Disorder Services

Specialty Eating Disorder care is delivered through the Adult Community Mental Health Team for clients 18 years and over. Following assessment, clients are assigned a care coordinator, with psychiatry, medical, dietitian and psychology input being individualised to their treatment plan.
