When your ability to study and your academic progress at university is affected by life events or by psychological or emotional difficulties, you may need some extra support to get back on track. The Student Counselling Service provides brief therapy and a range of other interventions designed to help you increase your own coping skills and achieve your potential during your studies. Research has shown that a large number of individuals benefit even from a single counselling session. If you need more than one session we will explore together what you need. You can bring any issues to discuss that are impacting on your studies eg life challenges, relationships, family, sexuality, depression, anxiety, stress, alcohol/drug issues. We are willing to work hard with you to help resolve your difficulties quickly, and rely on you to start doing whatever is necessary. Referral Process
This service is available to students currently enrolled at Massey University Wellington.
If you would like to book a counselling session, please complete an initial online confidential questionnaire or complete a paper version available from our receptionist.
Completing this online questionnaire is your first step in the process of self-referral to the Counselling Service. It is also a way of exploring your current concerns in preparation for counselling. Your responses will help you and the counsellor prepare for counselling by giving us a better understanding of your needs, expectations and of how counselling can be most helpful for you.
Once submitted, your completed documentation will be processed by our Counselling Team. Our receptionist will then contact you, either by telephone or email, and invite you to attend a counselling appointment with one of the Counselling Team.
All contact with staff of the Student Counselling Service, including the on-line questionnaire, is regarded as confidential with the normal professional and legal guidelines.
If you strongly object to or are struggling to complete the online questionnaire, please speak to our receptionist at the Student Health and Counselling Centre or phone 04 979 3030.
