THINK Hauora provides the Te Ara Rau Access & Choice service (including mental health and addiction services, Perinatal Wellbeing, RIMA (Refugee, Internally displaced, Migrant & Asylum Seeker) and Tūturu: True to Your Authentic Self (Gender Affirming). The Service works in partnership with GP practice teams and Iwi & Māori health providers across the rohe within the MidCentral Region. Mātanga Whai Ora (Health Improvement Practitioners) are Mental Health clinicians who work as members of the GP Teams to deliver focused brief interventions for all age groups. Kaiwhakapuaki Waiora (work within Iwi & Māori Organisations), Health Coaches and Peer Navigators may be registered or non-registered. They partner with GP Teams to support individuals to identify their own priorities for change and assist them to find the tools, resources and supports to meet their goals.

Kaiwhakapuaki Waiora, Health Coaches and Peer Navigators – our Kaiwhakapuaki Waiora and Health Coaches know lots about the different services and support available to you in our rohe. They are here to help develop your confidence, share knowledge with you, connect you to other services that may be useful to you, and support you to achieve your goals.
Mātanga Whai Ora – this is someone who you can talk to about whatever is having an impact on your health and wellbeing. They are experienced in helping people explore issues and coming up with a plan of action around how to tackle some of these challenges. You can see Mātanga Whai Ora whenever a need arises for you, and they can help you make positive changes to your life.

Support we offer: Our service is free of charge Primary mental health & addiction support Located in GP, Iwi & Māori Health providers and community locations Walk in service in GP settings Mātanga Whai Ora (Health Improvement Practitioner) These are health professionals who you can talk to about whatever is having an impact on your health and wellbeing. There are a number of ways you can connect with the service
- Talk to your health provider (GP, practice nurse, Māori health provider) and ask them to put you in touch with the service
- You can get in touch with us directly using the form here
- Pop in to a clinic where our teams are based and ask to speak to a Matanga Whai Ora
Unlike some other talking therapy services, you can normally talk to one of our team on the same day you ask for help.
There is no referral criteria, and our teams are based in general practice, Iwi & Māori health providers and community locations right across the district so there's always someone close to you, wherever you are.
