Hāpainga Stop Smoking Service covers the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty.

This is a FREE service to all patients who are motivated to quit in the Bay of Plenty.

Stop Smoking Service

Quitting smoking is an individual journey to wellness and we are here to help you. This is a FREE service to all patients who are motivated to quit in the Bay of Plenty. Stop Smoking Practitioners will work with individuals or groups to meet your needs and develop a quit smoking plan that works for you. You can be visited in the community at locations convenient to you such as home, marae, work or drop-in clinics. We provide free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges. These ease cravings and double your chance of quitting. Quit now for your health, your whānau and your wallet.

Referral Process

General Practice can refer clients to the service via Best Practice e-referral

Clients can self refer on free phone 0800 HĀPAINGA (0800 427 246) or visit our office at 5 Louvain Street, Whakatāne

Other community health providers can fax the completed referral form to (07) 306 2399

Include in referral if the patient:

  • is pregnant or
  • has any current mental health concerns

 The patient should be contacted within 3 working days on receipt of referral.
