Mr Burgess completed his MB ChB at the University of Dundee and then his formal orthopaedic training at hospitals in Scotland and New Zealand.

Mr Burgess is a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon in private practice in Christchurch. He is also a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Canterbury DHB.
