Ian is a Board Certified General and Colorectal Surgeon with experience and credentialling gained across Europe, the Far East and Australasia. His focus today is on delivering state-of-the-art Colorectal and General surgery care, and on high quality digestive system endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Ian works in Christchurch and in Queenstown in the private sector exclusively. He is a member of several local and international organisations covering his specialities and he has worked with the Association of Coloproctology, the Royal Colleges of Surgery, the Specialist Training Committees and surgical industry partners to train his fellow specialists and the future generation of surgeons in advanced surgical techniques. Ian treats a variety of colorectal and general surgical problems in the abdomen and pelvis (see below). His surgical work has been complemented by holding leadership positions for bowel cancer services, for keyhole surgery, for clinical directorship and for governance committees in both large teaching hospitals, health charities and private medical facilities. Ian has also undertaken surgical Expert Witness work for the medicolegal sector. His experience of so many facets of surgical care across such a variety of organisations and countries have provided him with a deep understanding of his sector, how it works, what “excellence of care” in his speciality really means to patients, and how to deliver that care to them through his practice.
