Chaplaincy and Kaumatua Services

Our Chaplains, and Kaumātua and Whaea provide pastoral care, spiritual support, leadership and guidance to patients, families, staff, visitors and friends at the hospital.

They work full time in the hospital providing a 24-hour service, and are available to all persons of any denomination, faith community, or none. The Chaplains, and Kaumātua and Whaea are committed to the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi and cultural sensitivity, acknowledging each person's culture.

There is a Spiritual Centre, Ahurewa, that everyone is welcome to visit located on the 3rd floor of the tower block.

A worship service is held every Sunday at 11am in the Chapel located in the Spiritual Centre. The first Sunday of every month is a Catholic Mass, all are welcome.

Ahurewa opened in early December 2015, after three years in the making. It is the new base for our chaplains, a space for patients, whānau and staff to share. The Centre caters for multiple faiths and all people from all denominations are encouraged to use it.

The new Spiritual Centre encompasses the Chapel of St Luke, a prayer room, quiet room, and also two seminar rooms.

To contact a chaplain please call (09) 486 8920 and ask to speak to the 'on call' chaplain.
