Associate Professor Murali Mahadevan and Dr James Johnston are Specialist Paediatric and Adult ENT surgeons practising together at Kakariki Hospital in Greenlane, Auckland, providing comprehensive care for both children and adults across all aspects of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Associate Professor Murali Mahadevan is a Specialist Paediatric and Adult ENT surgeon. He was previously a consultant surgeon with Auckland District Health Board and Counties Manukau District Health Board for over 25 years, and served as Clinical Director and Paediatric ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at Starship Children’s Hospital. Murali also holds an academic position with the University of Auckland as Associate Professor of Surgery within the Department of Surgery. He completed double fellowship training in Paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. Murali's subspecialty interests include all aspects of Paediatric ENT, adult snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), and adult and paediatric nasal and sinus surgery. He also has extensive experience in paediatric and adult neck lump surgery.

Dr James Johnston is a Specialist Paediatric and Adult ENT surgeon with expertise in airway, voice, swallowing, and sleep-disordered breathing conditions in both children and adults. Born and raised in Auckland, he graduated from the University of Auckland School of Medicine with the JDK North Prize for Most Distinguished Graduate in Medicine. James completed specialist ENT training in New Zealand before undertaking an advanced fellowship in Paediatric Airway Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. He also completed a PhD investigating tonsil and adenoid disease, supported by the Passe & Williams Foundation. Alongside private practice, he serves as a consultant at Starship Children’s Hospital and has a strong interest in advancing paediatric ENT care in New Zealand. James' subspecialty interests include paediatric ENT, airway surgery, voice and swallowing disorders, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), and adult and paediatric nasal and sinus surgery.
