After graduating from Auckland Medical School in 1989, Dr Lester Kelly worked at Taranaki Base Hospital for 3 years before moving to the UK for further training and travel. Upon returning to New Plymouth in 1994, he worked as a GP with a special interest in Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery, now he is a locum for Skin Institute.

Lester underwent significant further training in Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia (SCCA). He gained the Diploma of Dermoscopy (being awarded High Distinction) and the Advanced Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery. He was further awarded three SCCA Scholarships for gaining the top marks throughout Australasia in the Dermoscopy Diploma, the Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery along with the top marks in the Skin Cancer College Part 1 Fellowship examination.

He is an Accredited Doctor with the Skin Cancer College and has been an Affiliated Provider for Skin Cancer services with Southern Cross Health Society for many years.

Lester's interest and passion lies with the early and accurate diagnosis of all forms of skin cancer, along with providing the best possible surgical and medical treatments available. He has experience in complex skin cancer surgical techniques as well as appropriate topical treatment of less serious skin cancers or pre-cancerous sun damage.

An active outdoors enthusiast, Lester enjoys many water and action sports including skiing, white water kayaking, kite surfing and mountain biking and loves the outdoor landscape Taranaki offers.
