Ian was raised in Auckland, and completed his first degree in dentistry at the University of Otago in 1993. He then spent several years working in Auckland Hospitals before completing his medical degree and masters in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2002.

He extended his training by working in both Christchurch and Auckland and was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, achieving the medal for the highest mark in the final exam through out New Zealand and Australia.

Ian has since worked as a consultant at the Auckland Hospitals as well as working in private practice in both Auckland and Christchurch.

Neil and Ian have a very dedicated team to ensure that your experience is as pleasant as possible.

We are an affiliated Southern Cross provider for consultations and X-rays.


What is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery?
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical specialty which involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and defects affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons treat patients with problems such as impacted teeth, misaligned jaws, oral cancer, tumours and cysts of the jaws and facial trauma following accidents. They may also perform facial cosmetic surgery.


Referral Expectations

Most patients are referred by their doctor or dentist but it is not a necessity.

Types of referral:
Dento-alveolar surgery, surgical removal of the teeth including wisdom teeth, exposure of canines, apicectomies, dental implant surgery, orthognathic surgery including sleep apnoea procedures, temporomandibular joint disorders, facial pain, oral medicine problems including oral ulceration and vesiculo-bullous disorders, salivary gland disorders, oral lesions.

Travel Directions

Ascot Central can be found opposite Ascot Hospital on the corner with Ellerslie Racecourse Drive. A sign for Fertility Associates is displayed prominently on the side of the building.

There is ample parking (Ascot Pay & Display Parking) conveniently located straight through the first round about when turning into Ellerslie Racecourse Drive. The first 30 minutes are free and rates are $4 per hour thereafter – please ensure you prepay for your parking and allow up to 45 minutes for your consultation appointment with us.  If you hold a current mobility card there is disabled parking outside our building.


A short stroll away from Ascot Central, inside Ascot Hospital, there is a pharmacy where you can fill any prescriptions you are given.
